KOPI Deva - An Update on Our Kickstarter Campaign
We are halfway in to the KOPI Deva Kickstarter campaign, and we are so incredibly grateful for all your support, trust and feedback. We are currently more than 180% funded, and the KOPI Deva will be a reality!
Since launching, the Deva has been featured in Sprudge, Daily Coffee News and Gessato.
We've had enourmously helpful feedback from Lance Hedrick, Josh L Williams and Liam from @UKespresso, who have tested our prototype. We will use their takeaways for the final production model, in particular:
- Moving the power button to the right side of the cylinder
- Optimising funnel design to ensure cleaner workflow
- Producing and publishing full video guides covering: genereal use, maintenance, burr alignment and battery replacement
Further SSP Burr Testing
The motor and powertrain of the KOPI Deva are powerful enough to handle the extra torque requirements of SSP burrs. We’ve tested the Deva with 3 different types of SSP burrs; High Uniformity (Red Speed) and Multipurpose (both Red Speed and Silver Knight coated). You can find the results, including particle distribution analysis, on our website.
We are now including SSP burrs as an optional add-on when you buy a KOPI Deva on Kickstarter.
You can watch a video of the KOPI Deva in action with SSP High Uniformity burrs here.
A Note About Our Pricing
We’ve been getting some questions about our pricing system - one price for UK backers and another price for non-UK backers. We appreciate that it looks like UK backers have to pay more, and we’d like to expand on the pricing system.
Here’s an example of how our pricing works:
A backer from the UK pays £549 for the KOPI Deva + £15 in delivery. The £549 included UK VAT at 20%. By the time their Deva is delivered they’ve paid a total of £564
A backer from Germany* pays £459 for the KOPI Deva + £30 for delivery. Their total on Kickstarter is £489. Before the shipping company releases their Deva to them, they have to pay German import VAT* which is currently 19%; £92.91. By the time their Deva is delivered they’ve paid £581.91 + a import VAT handling fee charged by the shipper.
*please note that we’ve used German import VAT for this example. Import VAT rates and delivery fees vary from country to country.
If the price had been £549 for all customers, by the time the Deva is delivered, a German customer (to stay with the above example), would have had to pay 19% of £549 + £30 delivery, a total of £689.01.
We’ve opted for this solution to avoid double taxation of non-UK backers, and hopefully make the first production round of Devas accessible to backers all over the world.
We are sorry about any confusion this might have caused. Please let us know if you have any questions, (but do bear in mind that we cannot advise on import rates and regulations for specific countries).
We've been getting messages from many of you, asking questions and sharing your thoughts on the prototype. Thank you so much to everyone who's taken the time to message us. We really appreciate your interest and investment in our product!
